Overview of Features

This demo manual was created to highlight the features of ViaData Manuals On-Line™. The Demo Manual book in the Table of Contents contains a set of typical topics that you can use to try out these capabilities.

If you go to another topic to try out a feature, you can return to this topic using the Table of Contents or by using your browser or device BACK button.

Features

This manual has been formatted in Responsive layout to provide optimal display on desktops/laptops, tablets and phones.

To see how the manual will display on a tablet or phone from your desktop or laptop, decrease the browser window size for the same effect; as the width decreases the layout will switch from desktop to tablet (landscape) and then to phone or tablet (portrait).

A "How to Use this Online Manual" topic is included in every manual to provide compete details on how features work, but users will find most functions familiar and intuitive to use.

These are "jumps" that take you to a specific location either within the same topic or to another topic.

How it works:	Cross-references are shown in blue, underlined text. For example: List of Drawings.
Try it here:	At the top of any of the "Section" demo manual topics there are cross-references to subsections within the same topic. In Section 2 subsection 7.0 there are links to locations within a different topic.

References to regulations are provided where applicable within this manual.

How it works:	When you click/tap the link, the regulations will open in a new tab. Federal regulations links begin with "49 CFR", for example: 49 CFR §§ 192.5, 192.707 State regulations links are shown with a state icon and blue shading, for example: New Hampshire Puc 506.01(q)(r)(s)

Your manual can contain links to forms, equipment manuals, demonstrations and more. Linked files can be PDF documents, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, videos, and many other types of files.

You can include any type of file, but users must have the appropriate application on their systems to open it.

How it works:	Links to other documents are shown in blue, underlined text that includes the document type. For example: Keyhole Repair (PDF Format) Documents will either open in a new tab or download so users can open them in their native application.

Manuals feature an auto-expanding table of contents, and an optional index and glossary. Desktop users viewing the manual full-screen see the Table of Contents by default. Other users can use the function bar buttons to show the various panes.

How it works:

Click/tap the button for the pane you want to see:

Table of Contents - lets you see the structure of the manual. Click or tap on a book to expand it. Click on a page to see a topic. When you open a topic from a jump, from search results or from the index, the table of contents in desktop layout automatically highlights the topic you are viewing.

Index - lets you find topics related to specific terms. Enter your term in the Filter Terms box or scroll to find an item. Tap the item to see related topics.

Glossary - shows you a list of terms. Click or tap a term to see its definition.
Glossary terms are also embedded within topics, indicated by maroon text. Click or tap the term to see its definition; tap again to hide it.

Desktop users: to hide the left pane, click the splitter

between the pane and the topic.
Mobile and tablet: To dismiss the Table of Contents, Index or Glossary pane, tap the icon on the function bar again.

How it works:

Click/tap the Search button

on the manual's function bar to open the Search pane.
Enter your text in the Search field then click/tap the small icon

Enclose phrases in quotes: e.g. "line markers".
You may include boolean operators OR, NOT, AND in uppercase.
Substring search is enabled so you can search using part of a word.

Results will appear ordered by best match first.
Click/tap an item name to display it with the search terms highlighted.
Mobile and tablet users: tap the Search icon again to hide the pane.

Note: be sure to click or tap on a result in the search pane to see the latest results. The topic with previous search results highlighted stays on the screen until you click a new result.
PDFs included with your manual are also searchable. Search for:

"cast iron", plastic, or "repair method".

The included PDF, Main Repair, will be returned as a search result. Search terms are not highlighted in PDF files.

This demo manual offers filtering by state, but your manual can include filters based on other criteria that you define (for example user role or company division).

How it works:

Click/tap the Filter button in the function bar to display the Filter pane.
Choose the state(s) whose specific information you want to see.
Information for other states will be hidden.
The topic content will change dynamically as you change filter selections.

Mobile and tablet users: tap the Filter button again to hide the pane.
